Un elicottero che reca a bordo un ministro viene abbattuto nella giungla da un gruppo di guerriglieri di un Paese dell'America centrale, desiderosi di catturare ostaggi. Dillon, un agente della CIA, ingaggia il maggiore Dutch Schaefer, un ex-collega, il quale capeggia alcuni professionisti dell'avventura, che con lui eseguono normalmente rischiose operazioni. Dutch accetta e raggiunge con i suoi la zona del sequestro, anche perchè gli preme di recuperare in particolare un amico, Hopper, l'elicotterista abbattuto. Il commando non impiega molto tempo ad eliminare i guerriglieri e a scoprire il corpo di Hooper barbaramente seviziato e squartato. Poi ad uno ad uno cadono i compagni di Dutch, con i volti sfigurati da unghiate terribili: nella giungla sembra aggirarsi un mostro misterioso e inafferrabile.
